Living in Downtown Mobile (Gear Grinding)

You Know What Really Grinds My Gears:

It really grinds my gears that Handicap Parking Spaces Downtown are not clearly marked and painted. For example, on Dauphin Street I have seen Handicap Signs located between two parking spots, neither spot is clearly outlined in blue, and just to throw a little more confusion into the mix there is a LODA Wave sign strategically located in the middle of one of the two parking spaces in question. So, what do you do? Do you avoid the parking spaces (both of them) at all costs in an effort not to get a ticket? Do you take your chances and park in the spot that is least marked? Do you circle the block one more time just to see if someone else parks in one of the spots leaving one available and hope that they are not handicapped? What did I do you may ask? Well you know I took my chances and came out on top, but there is no guarantee that I will have the same outcome each time.

Downtown is coming back and people are coming down to see what is going on, where it is going on, and who has it going on. People need to know where they can and can't park. One way signs, for the love of God, need to be readable (that is another topic of Gear Grinding that will come about later). FYI, I have noticed these tricky spots to be on Dauphin Street on the Northwest Corners of most blocks (not all).

Please note that I am not a hater of the handicapped. I am more concerned with the lack of clarity that we are working with downtown on the streets. I would feel horrible if I parked in a spot that appeared to be a regular spot that was actually intended for a handicapped individual.

Gear Grinding Issue Part II

To all the people who ruin the beautiful things in life (ie the flowers and plants in front of 412 Dauphin Street) you are just stupid. Why would anyone destroy the plants there for no reason? Why would anyone relieve themselves on the plants in front of said building? Really? Really? How old are you? Are you mentally handicapped (because if you are that would explain a lot and I would not grind my gears toward you and I would also make sure that you have parking available to get you to the restroom fast)? Do not urinate in public. 1) It is against the law. 2) It is disgusting. 3) It kills plants. Those plants are not only beautiful, but very expensive. Please do not uproot the plants. Please do not urinate on the plants. Please do not throw up on the plants. Please leave the plants alone. What have they done to you lately?

I know that sometimes we go out and have a few adult (ADULT is the key word) beverages and get a little bit crazy. It happens to the best of us. However, why would it be fun to get drunk and uproot plants? What is fun about that may I ask? And peeing on plants in front of some one's home? Really? That is not my idea of a fun Saturday night.

In conclusion if it belongs in the dirt, keep it in the dirt. If it belongs in your pants, keep it in your pants.

Peace Out,
Becky Tran.
